Brute Force cracking is defined as using every combination to derive the password. What password attributes effect the amount of time it takes? Choose all that apply.
length
username
character complexity
algorithm
Length, character complexity, and algorithm all effect the time. username does not. EDIT : Algorithm is a password attribute??? EDIT: Complexity is not relative. Brute-force tries all combinations. The passwords 'password' and 'p@ssw0rd' are equivalent to a brute-force attack. *** Answers updated. Complexity does not affect brute forcing. "Algorithm" is irrelevant to the brute forcing program. -- What a BS question. Complexity absolutely influences the time a brute force attempt will take. Alphanumeric is exponentially different from basic Alpha (^10). Adding upper/lower case does it again (^26). Adding symbols exponentially increases it again (take your pick of keyboards and symbols...). And then length takes it all to another large exponent. Those are all computing cycles. They are all time. **Algorithms certainly do affect the time it takes to brute force, if you consider that weaker hashing algorithms such as MD5 output a smaller hash than more modern hashing algorithms such as SHA-2. Exhausting the MD5 128-bit hash space will take far less time than the hash space of SHA-2 512. EDIT: No one would argue that algorithms are a factor in the time taken to crack, however, calling them an attribute is a stretch. I suppose on *some systems you could select the algorithm and it would thereby (possibly) be considered an attribute, but the algorithm is not available for selection on most systems and therefor not considered an attribute (think checkboxes on Windows AD). The option of algorithm really should be removed
