DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) is engaged in order to prevent use of covert channels.
True
False
Deep Packet Inspection is a critical component of more modern firewalls. DPI actually inspects the contents of packets that traverse the FW. If malicious code is sent across any well-known and allowed port (pick one - 53, 123, 110, 80, etc), DPI can reveal that the packets are not actually, for example, DNS data and will thus block the packet(s). If your corporate FWs can't do DPI, you're in trouble. Simple port-blocking was useful 15 years ago. It is next to useless today because the bad guys are all using covert channels.
