You would not recommend an Omnidirectional antenna for this. It would try to capture packets from all direction causing it drop a lot of packets at such a distance. It is better to use a directional antenna in this case (think Pringles can!) and point it towards the building. Edit: I agree with the logic of the text above but not the wording of the question. A high gain implies (hopefully) better signal, hence dropping of packets should not be the consideration. Long distance implies more difficult to be caught. So it makes sense when combined together. Anyway, I agree that a unidirectional attenna would be a better choice.
