TFTP-Trivial File Transfer Protocol Most often used by servers to boot diskless; pxe boot, X-terminals and routers. Also used to back up routers and move configs and images directly to flash storage on a router or switch. Basically the only thing it can do is read/write files(or mail) from/to a remote server/host. TFTP utilizes UDP it cannot list directories and has no provisions for user authentication. RFC 2347 does however allow for the addition of optional parameters and it is possible to add authentication via Linux-PAM.
