Refer to the exhibit. Router "R1" and "R2" are connected through their serial interfaces. For some reason their serial interfaces remain in an up/down state. What can be the issue? Passwords from username and pap sent-username must match.
Router R1 must have a username other than R2 and the same for R2.
The "ppp pap sent-username" command must indicate the peer end username.
The command "ppp authentication pap" must be followed by the keyword chap.
The keyword "password" from the ppp sub-command "ppp pap sent-username [] password []" must match the password set on the username of the other router. This command enables outbound PAP authentication. The router uses this information to authenticate to the remote router. The remote router must have the same username/password configured using the "username" command from the global configuration mode.
