Rob was asked by his PMO Director to review his projects and calculate each of their TCPIs. The first project he reviewed was currently on or ahead of plan, what is its resultant TCPI and what does this ratio of efficiency tell his director about the project; given the following data: AC=$110,000, BAC=$125,000, and EV=$105,000.
TCPI = .8 which shows project will be easier to complete and may need less resources
TCPI = .1 which shows project will be same to complete and will not require additional resources
TCPI = 1.33 which shows project will be harder to complete and may need more resources
TCPI = .75 which shows project will be harder to complete and may need more resources
Let's first look at the formula: We proceed to TCPI formula stating that must maintain same efficiency in order to complete project on plan : TCPI =[(BAC-EV)/(BAC-AC)]. We fill in the calculation TCPI=([$125,000-$105,000]/[$125,000-$110,000]) =$20,000/$15,000 = 1.33 which indicates harder to complete. (PMBOK 2013 Rev 5th Edition, pgs 217-225).
