Transport mode in IPsec is designed for host-to-host communication.
True
False
In transport mode, only the payload of the IP packet is usually encrypted or authenticated. In Tunnel mode the entire IP packet is encrypted and authenticated. Tunnel mode is used to create virtual private networks for network-to-network communications (e.g. between routers to link sites), host-to-network communications (e.g. remote user access) and host-to-host communications (e.g. private chat) Transport mode encapsulation retains the original IP header. Therefore, when transport mode is used, the IP header reflects the original source and destination of the packet. Transport is most often used in a host-to-host scenario, where the data endpoints and the security endpoints are the same. A transport mode encapsulated datagram is routed, or transported, in the same manner as the original packet. http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSLTBW2.1.0/com.ibm.zos.v2r1.halz002/ipsecurityipsecahespencapmodes.htm
