Which encryption method is used when the sender and receiver use an instance of the same key for encryption and decryption?
Asymmetric algorithm
Diffusion
Block cipher
Symmetric algorithm
A symmetric algorithm is used when the sender and receiver use a single, "secret key" for encryption and decryption purposes. With symmetric algorithms anyone else with the secret key may also decrypt the information. To prevent that vulnerability asymmetric algorithms use a public key/private key pair. This means that anyone with an individual's public key may encrypt data and send to that individual, but only that recipient may decrypt the data with their private key.
