Which of these acronyms is NOT a mode of the data encryption standard DES?
DIA
CFB
CBC
ECB
DIA is not a mode of encryption. It's gibberish.
DES stands for Data Encryption Standard a symmetric-key, block-cipher alg. ECB, CBC, and CFB are all modes of a block-cipher. A block-cipher by itself is only suitable for the secure cryptographic transformation of one fixed-length group of bits called a block. A mode of operation describes how to repeatedly apply a cipher's single-block operation to securely transform amounts of data larger than a block.
ECB stands for Electronic Codebook the simplest form of encryption. The message is divided into blocks, and each block is encrypted separately. CBC stands for Cipher Block Chaining. In CBC mode, each block of plaintext is randomized with the previous cipher-text block before being encrypted. CFB stands for Cipher Feedback. The Cipher Feedback (CFB) mode, a close relative of CBC, makes a block cipher into a self-synchronizing stream cipher.
