Which of these would BEST test the security implementation in an organization:
Vulnerability test
Firewall test
Penetration test
Network test
A penetration test assesses the security posture of an organization and produces a report upon conclusion, indicating how to mitigate security risks. Edit: Wouldn't a vulnerability test provide this as well and better suited to match what you are asking? Nessus scans are often used to test security implementations. EDIT: Both a Penetration test and Vulnerability test would get the job done. I recommend adding "MOST" or "BEST" to the question. Right ! a vulnerability test/scan also tests (more conclusively) than pen tests and more thoroughly. Edit: I disagree -- most vulnerabilities tests are rife with false positives or with true positives where no exploit exists. Also, pen tests test against other flaws, such as poor password policies, pool social engineering training, bad configurations, etc. It is WAY more comprehensive. Edit: Most pentests start with vulnerability scanners and will include that information in the report but it approaches it from a risk perspective (what could actually happen).
