At which layer of the OSI model, is a control header added with an address of a destination host located on another network?
Data link
Transport
Physical
Application
Session
Network
Data is generated at the application layer which is handed down to the transport layer. At the transport layer the data is broken up into smaller pieces and a PDU (Packet Data Units) is created and added to the header. A segment is created and sent from the Transport layer to the Network layer which adds information for routing and addressing. The network layer adds a control header to the segment and converts it into a packet. A packet contains important information for routing such as source and destination IP. The packet is then handed down to the Data Link for local (MAC) addressing and converts it into a frame. The frame is finally converted to bits at the physical layer and sent over the medium.
