In SSHv2, which algorithm is used for exchanging keys securely?
RSA
DSA
Schmidt-Samoa
Diffie-Hellman
In 2006, a revised version of the protocol, SSH-2, was adopted as a standard. This version is incompatible with SSH-1. SSH-2 features both security and feature improvements over SSH-1. Better security, for example, comes through Diffie-Hellman key exchange and strong integrity checking via message authentication codes. https://en.wikipedia.org /wiki/SecureShell#Keymanagement. NOTE: But in the explanation about Diffie-Helman in a different Skillset question, it writes that Diffie-Helman "does not provide encryption or digital signature functionality." So which is it? is Diffie-Helman an encryption technique or not??? SSH utilizes asymmetric encryption in a few different places. During the initial key exchange process used to set up the symmetrical encryption (used to encrypt the session), asymmetrical encryption is used. In this stage, both parties produce temporary key pairs and exchange the public key in order to produce the shared secret that will be used for symmetrical encryption SSH can be configured to utilize a variety of different symmetrical cipher systems, including AES, Blowfish, 3DES, CAST128, and Arcfour. The server and client can both decide on a list of their supported ciphers, ordered by preference. The first option from the client's list that is available on the server is used as the cipher algorithm in both directions
EDIT: Diffie Hellman provides a secure key exchange mechanism, but it does not provide encryption. The questions states..."what encryption technique"... in my opinion, this is not worded properly.
EDIT: Please see https://docstore.mik.ua/orelly/networking2ndEd/ssh/ch0309.htm for details as to why Diffie-Hellman is the correct answer. Also modified the question to say "Algorithm" instead of "encryption technique".
