How do you set the console, aux, and vty passwords to be displayed only in an encrypted form?
By using encryption method MD5, when configuring each password.
By applying the "service password-encryption" command in the global configuration mode
By using an encryption server on the same network, to dynamically encrypt the passwords.
By manually entering each password as it is shown in the output.
By applying the "enable secret 5" command in the global configuration mode.
By applying the service password-encryption command in the global configuration mode we ensure that plain text passwords are not shown in the output of the _show running-configuration command or in any printed or backup version of the configuration file. The _enable secret is already encrypted using a different method, so there is no need to manually encrypt it. To determine which encryption method is being used to encrypt a password, the preceding digit before the encrypted password string defines this method. For example the [7] means that the password has been encrypted using a weaker encryption method. The [5] before the enable secret password, means that it has been hashed using a MD5, a stronger encryption method.
