What is the immediate and proper action to take if a loop occurs in a switched network and the STP malfunctions?
Identify the redundant links and physically remove them.
Restart the spanning tree process in the Switch.
Execute the command "set spantree disable all" on all switches.
Connect via Telnet and run "show spantree" to identify the Root Bridge.
In case that STP is malfunctioning, the blocking port might not be assigned properly and the loop might still be running in the network. The most practical way is to check the network diagram, find the redundant link and physically remove the link. This will stabilize the network, making it easier to find the source of the problem. The command "show spanntree" is a Catalyst command and does not solve the problem. Another possible solution is to disable spanning tree on all switches, however this may not be recommendable, because the loop will still be there.
