You are using nmap to resolve domain names to ip addresses for a ping sweep later. Which of the following commands (Linux command) looks for host IP addresses?
host -t AXFR hackedme.com
host -t ns hackedme.com
host -t a hackedme.com
host -t soa hackedme.com
This was on the CEH Test taken 2-15-2016
can somebody explain?
Edit: To explain. HOST is a Linux DNS (CLI or Command Line Interface) Lookup utility. The -t switch designates "type". Since we want to resolve a Domain Name to an IP, we need to do a DNS Lookup. So we set the type to "A" to an IPv4 address record. This would provide us the IP address of the Domain Name. If for example we wanted to do a reverse DNS lookup (or IP to Domain Name) we would set the type to "NS" or Name Server Record. AXFR is used for DNS Zone Transfers and SOA is used for Start of Authority Records for the DNS Record.
