You are using the tool Cain & Abel to crack passwords that were dumped from a Windows box. Which hashing technology would be cracked the fastest (assuming the password is H47@ke* )
SHA-256
NTLM
MD5
NTLMv2
LM
The correct answer is LM. MD5 and SHA-256 are hashing algorithms, but not used to store passwords in Windows. This leaves LM, NTLM, and NTLMv2. LM hashes are significantly weaker than NTLM and NTLMv2. LM is deprecated hash used by Microsoft LAN Manager for passwords - you can figure out the password by cracking the first seven characters and then cracking the second part of the password separately (added by TK)
