The maximum Ethernet frame size allowed is 1,522 bytes, this is the original 1518 bytes plus an additional 4 bytes to allow for VLAN tagging. Any packets larger than this size is considered a Giant. On the other hand, any packets that are smaller than the minimum size of 64 bytes is considered a Runt. Both Giant and Runt packets are discarded. ISPs typically recommend using 1500 bytes as the Max size.
