Refer to the exhibit below. PC1 sends a frame to PC4, what will the Switch _SW1 do when it receives the frame from PC1?
The switch will add the destination MAC of the frame to the MAC address table and forward the frame to PC4.
The switch will discard the frame from PC1.
The switch will flood the frame out of all ports except to port Fa0/2.
The switch will add the source address and port to the MAC address table and forward the frame to PC4.
The two main functions of a switch are to flood or forward frames and to learn or populate its MAC address table with MAC addresses and interfaces. When a frame enters the switch and the destination MAC addresses is unknown in the switch's MAC address table, the Switch will flood or forward copies of the frame out all ports, except the port on which the frame was received. On the other end, the unknown device receives the frame and sends a reply. The switch will build a correct MAC table entry for the unknown device based on its source MAC address. In this scenario, the only unknown port in the table is F0/2 which is immediately recorded with the MAC address as soon as it receives a frame on that port. After that, the switch proceeds to forward the frame to the destination address in this case from port Fa0/8 because the table already contains this entry.
