The MAC Address table with active hosts is shown below. What two functions will Switch_SW1 perform when it receives the Ethernet frame with the information below (choose two):
The frame will be forwarded to port Fa0/5.
The frame will be flooded out of all ports on the switch since neither the L2-Source or L2-Destination address are currently in the Mac Address table
The MAC Address 0000.00BB.2222 will be recorded in the MAC Address table only if that device is on and responds.
The frame will be flooded out all ports except Fa0/12.
The MAC Address 0000.00DD.4444 will be recorded in the MAC Address table.
An important function of a Switch is to learn MAC addresses and interfaces, and map them into its address table. With a complete address table, a switch can make forwarding decisions based on the MAC addresses mapped to a specific interface. When a frame enters the switch, the switch consults is MAC table, and if the source MAC address is not in the table, the switch makes a new entry. The table entry lists the interface from which the frame was received (the source). In the case of the question, the Ethernet Frame is coming from Fa0/12. The Switch will proceed to map the source MAC from the frame to its incoming interface. In order to find the owner of the destination MAC, because that MAC address is unknown to the Switch, it will flood the frame to all ports except the one that it came from (Fa0/12). The switch will not map the destination MAC address because it only records a MAC address in its table when the packet is inbound.
