What switching mode is enabled by default on a Cisco switch?
Fragment-Free
Fast-Forward
Store-and-Forward
Cut-Through
The default switching mode on Cisco switches is Cut-Through. In Cut-Through switching mode, received frames are forwarded as soon as the destination MAC address is determined (first 6 bytes of the frame). In Store-and-Forward switching mode, the complete frames are received first before being forwarded. The switch calculates for CRC errors to determine if errors occurred. If there are any errors, the frame is discarded. In Fragment-Free switching mode, the switch checks for the first 64 bytes of the frame, where most network errors and collisions occur, before being forwarded.
