Which of these actions is taken by an IDS once it determines that an attack is underway?
shutting down servers
denying connections
logging of the event
Any of these
Once an attack is detected, an IDS is capable of deploying any of the given actions as instructed by the security administrator. EDIT This does not sound correct. While the IDS can detect and report it to the Security Administrator. An IDS does not in itself take action to stop the attack. Other systems act to prevent attacks. Like an IPS or an IDPS. But an IDS in itself wouldnt. If I am wrong please give source of reference.** Agree. The only correct answer here is logging of the event. Denying connections and shutting down servers is not a function available in IDS, but rather IPS.
