Which table holds an IP address to MAC address mapping?
MAC
CAM
ARP cache
ARP is used to resolve an IP address into the appropriate MAC address in order to craft the Ethernet header for data transmission.
This question could be worded better. A CAM table stores MAC Addresses on a Switch. ARP Cache stores previous ARP responses/determinations on a host. Is an ARP table even a real term?
-ARP table is certainly a real term. On Linux systems, you can display the ARP table with the command "arp -an" https://www.tummy.com/articles/networking-basics-how-arp-works/ -JMK 6/25/17-
Yes, there is such a thing as an ARP "table", but that's not what it's called... nor was it one of the choices on the answers. ARP is NOT a table. It's a protocol. The ARP cache is a table. They're two different things. (corrected the answer)
